We made it home safe and sound. The flights went smooth. Max was a great little traveler. It was like Christmas morning magnified X10 last night. Max had to check everything out, right down to the dirty clothes hampers. The girls were so excited to see him, they all fought over who would get to hold him first.
The first stop once getting back in town was our favorite Mexican restaurant. Poor Max, we bring him home from China and the first place we take him is to eat at a Mexican restaurant. He didn't care for Mexican food much. He was so cute, while we were eating he got two straws and made chop sticks out of them so he could eat his rice. Poor little guy, I am going to have to learn how to cook Chinese.
I want to thank everyone for all your prayers & support. Thanks to Aunt Paige, Mama C, Gretchen S., Jenny H., and the Hawks for all your help with the girls. We couldn't have made this trip with out your help! We will update soon.
A side note to remember...the night before we left, Max told our guide when he gets to America his hair would turn the same color as mama's. I wish I knew what all was going through his little mind :)

I am glad you made it home smoothly! I loved what you wrote about the straws. I remember when Max did the same thing with the bread sticks at the Italian place on Shaiman Island.
We are so glad to be home! Ashlei loves running around the house. We took her to church this morning and everyone wanted to meet her.
Tell Max hi for me!
I have been waiting to hear how your first day back went. I can only imagine what it was like in your house when you got home. I bet the girls were thrilled! I can't wait to hear how he adjusts to life in the Matheny house!
Max has been the topic of all our conversations since the resturant last night. We can't get enough. Tonight when we dropped Meredith off we wanted to stay for hours! He is perfect.
Caroline has now let us know she would gladly give her baby position to have a brother like Max.
Congrats on your adoption. We have been so blessed to have walked this journey with you. You all 7 have touched our lives in so many ways.
We love you!
awww, that last bit about what Max told his guide, how cute is that?!
Good luck with making him feel at home with food. I'm sure he'll change his dietary needs soon.
I can't wait to meet Max at church next week.
I wish I could have seen the looks on the girls' faces when they first saw their new brother. He sounds so adorable and I cannot wait to meet him! I pray for a smooth transition for you and him! Glad you made it home safe and sound. Love ya!

Glad to hear you made it home safely! We had sent the link to your blog to our girls. Amanda was in the Tech library today when she read it. She said she started to cry right there in in library! She told me she thought it was wonderful that Max got to join a family as wonderful as yours!
We can't wait to meet him!

We are the parents of Michelle Lucas. Sorry my first message several days ago did not get posted. We wanted to let you know how very much we have enjoyed hearing from the Lucas and Matheny families via the internet as you made your journey to China. Both of your families have received special gifts from God in Ashlei and Max!!
This blog has supplemented the Lucas journal. Thank you for being great traveling companions for our children and grandchildren.
We prayed for all of you yesterday as you made that long airplane journey home and as you parted ways in Detroit. We know the Lucas family will look forward to seeing all of you again and meeting your three beautiful young ladies!!
Hey you guys--congratulations! How exciting for you:) Also, we left you something in our most recent post on our blog.
So glad you made it home safely. I know the girls were just too excited to see their new brother. And we are so much alike. Mexican food YUMMMMMYYY!
Can't wait to hear more about your adjustments as a family of 7.
On a side note - Does your mom still live near Granny's house and are you guys going to be there on Thanksgiving? If so I was wondering if we could work out seeing you? I know it is busy and it might not work out but I would love to meet Max too.
So glad you're back home. Such a great feeling.
I've LOVED reading every post!
Looking forward to meeting the darling.
I'm so glad you are home safely. Now you can finally begin raising him like you want to and holding him when you want without others making cold comments and being judgmental. They don't know what a good mom you are! Sounds like Max is going to fit in your family perfectly. Can't wait to see him! Take care!

Yay! I hope he can get used to other types of food. So maybe rice will be on the menu for the next little while!
