Our first week at home has been so much fun. Max is adjusting so well. We continue to be amazed at the way he is understanding us and the way he is picking up English. He loves his new brother and sisters. He gets excited everyday when it is time to go pick them up from school.
On Monday morning when it was time for the kids to get their backpacks for school, Max had to grab a bag, too. On Tuesday we made sure he had his own backpack ready to go. Now every time we leave to go take the kids or pick them up he grabs his backpack. I know he will love school when he starts next year. He is SO smart!!! I have been doing school here with him. He amazes me how he remembers everything.
We are headed to Vanderbilt Clinic for International Adoption today for an all over evaluation. Max will meet with occupational therapist, developmental therapist, attachment specialist, a child psychologist, and a pediatric physician. I can't wait to see what level he is on developmentally. I don't think he is behind at all!
Backing up...this picture was the morning we left China. We loved this bellboy!
He loves the kitchen!!!
Monday going to school...Max grabbed a Publix bag so that he had a bag, too.
He loves to take pictures. I gave him our old camera so that he could take as many pictures as he wants.

You will probably not get this before you head to Vanderbilt but are seeing Dr. Rothman? She was our pediatrician when we lived in the Nashville area. We LOVE her. She is GREAT. We miss her so much.
Anyway good luck at the adoption clinic. They will take good care of you - it is totally worth your time.
Glad everything is going so well. Adoption is such an amazing gift.
aww so cute!! Max seems to be fitting right in. What a helpful little guy.
Those puppies are so cute!
I love my steam mop too!
Heather,
I can't wait to get Max and the rest of the kids here for Thanksgiving. I have already gone out and gotten everybody's favorite things to eat!! I can already smell Uncle Eric's pumpkin pie baking,Grant's broccoli casserole bubbling, and can taste Aunt Paige's favorite...cranberry salad. I can already hear the laughter of my children and g-children in my ears.
The extended family is so anxious to meet Max. I am so thrilled about his progress. We have had many prayers answered. Heather,Micheal,Meredith,Mitchell,Mallory and Maggie,I am so proud of all the sacrifices that you have made for a sweet, sweet boy. Your efforts will be rewarded. My prayer is that someday Max will return to China as a missionary to teach the gospel to the people in China. He is such a special little spirit, and seems to be so intelligent. I'm sure that our Heavenly Father has a special plan for him. It has been a long hard journey, but well worth it. I know that you and Micheal will take your stewardship very seriously. What joys are in store for all of us including Maxson Thomas Matheny. I am so excited about the holidays and the time that I will have with my family. Yes Maggie, Our Heavenly Father has definitely blessed us this year and continues to do so every day. I am so very thankful for a wonderful family to share my life with. Yes, life is good.
Love

P.S.
Meredith and Mitchell, there will be plenty of dressing for You!!
I wonder if it's the age and last child syndrome because a lot of these things remind me of Wesley, especially having to have a backpack to take everyone to school. The boys talked about him all morning on Sunday and I had to warn them that he was probably still getting adjusted and wouldn't be there. They are so excited!!
So glad he is doing well. Sweet sweet boy!!!
Heather...I LOVE it!!!! I am in love with him already! I love the part about him helping clean. I definitely want him to talk to my boys...they hep me if I ask...but they have never INSISTED I let them do it!!! Precious Memories!
beautiful! He fits in perfectly with your family!
I am glad that things are going well! He seems to be adapting very well. I can tell his sisters love him. I love the pictures of him with those puppies. :) We miss you guys!
